Deck questions

FAQ: real answers

How much does a deck cost in Maryland?+

Deck costs in Maryland range from $18,000 for a basic pressure-treated deck to $75,000+ for a multi-level composite with pergola and outdoor kitchen. A typical 300-400 sq ft composite deck runs $28,000-$45,000 installed with permits. Use our calculator above for your specific scenario - or call Aleks for a free in-home quote.

Composite vs wood deck - which is better in Maryland?+

For Maryland's humid summers and freeze-thaw winters, composite (Trex/TimberTech) is the right call for most homeowners. No annual sealing, no warping, no splinters, 25-year manufacturer warranty. The upfront cost is 40-60% more than pressure-treated pine, but you'll spend nothing on maintenance and the deck lasts twice as long. We recommend Ipe hardwood only when the natural look is the priority and the homeowner commits to annual oiling.

Do I need a permit for a deck in Maryland?+

Yes - any deck attached to the house or over 30 inches above grade requires a building permit in Maryland. Ground-level free-standing platforms under 200 sq ft may not require a permit depending on your county. AmeriPro pulls all permits under MHIC #108556 and handles every inspection. We never build without proper permits - unpermitted decks create major issues at resale.

How long does it take to build a deck?+

A standard single-level composite deck (300-400 sq ft): 2-3 weeks of construction after permit approval. Permit pull time in Maryland is typically 2-4 weeks. Multi-level decks with outdoor kitchens or pergolas: 4-6 weeks of construction. We give you a firm schedule during pre-construction and we hold it.

Can you build a deck if I have an HOA?+

Yes - we're experienced with HOA projects throughout Maryland. You'll need HOA approval before we pull the county permit. We provide all materials specs, renderings, and documentation your HOA requires. The approval process typically adds 2-4 weeks before construction begins.

What's included in your 10-year warranty?+

The 10-year written warranty covers all AmeriPro workmanship - framing, footings, installation, railings, and all built-in features. Material warranties (Trex's 25-year, for example) are on top of and separate from our workmanship warranty. Everything is in writing, signed at contract - it travels with the home if you sell.

Do you build pools or just decks?+

We specialize in poolside decks and outdoor spaces - the hardscape, decking, outdoor kitchen, and pergola surrounding the pool. Pool construction itself (excavation, pool shell, plumbing) is handled by pool subcontractors we can recommend and coordinate with. We build everything around the water.
